Shaina's Safe Haven Fund is a restricted account whose funds are used to specifically pay the costs incurred by those cats who are recuperating after a surgery or significant medical treatment -or- who are being fostered at Sullivan County Humane Society due to an urgent family need.
There are several situations that Sullivan County Humane Society acts a ‘save haven’ for numerous deserving felines.
An owner might be hospitalized causing a need for temporary shelter for their furry companion. Another scenario could be a safety situation involving domestic violence or homelessness. Sometimes we have the space and capacity to be that temporary 'safe haven'.
A more common scenario is when we provide a ‘safe haven’ for a cat requiring medical care that necessitates a recovery period prior to being available for adoption. Sometimes that recovery only takes days but sometimes it can be months, and in that case too, we provide all the care and love they need while they recuperate.
Shaina’s Safe Haven fund was established when Shaina Lyn (Stoddard) Maxham tragically passed away at the age of 37.
Shaina had a great fondness for animals and understood the bond that mutually benefits both pet and human. She experienced that bond herself many times including with her dog Zander and cat Lilly. Shaina’s warm heart would have gone out to anyone who was in a situation where life’s trials may separate them from their pet(s). Pet parents dealing with housing or health issues need to know that their beloved pets will be safe while they recover from their crisis.
And Shaina spent time volunteering at the Sullivan County Humane Society where she would engage with animals who were not on the adoption floor but would work to brighten the hours and days of animals recovering from surgeries big and small. During her time there she adopted two wonderful kittens from the shelter. Her family wanted to honor her love for animals by establishing an endowment fund bearing her name to help ensure that pets can take the time they need in a warm, safe, loving space as they prepare for the next step in their journey.
Donations to this fund may be made online via PayPal or mailed to: Sullivan County Humane Society PO Box 111 Claremont, NH 03743. Please be sure to note that you are donating to the Shaina's Safe Haven Fund and if you add your email you can get ongoing updates of the kitties you are helping.
Thank you for helping the cats and kittens at Sullivan County Humane Society ❤️
